BI Practice Leads are required to manage multiple people, processes and technologies to successfully deliver a high quality business intelligence product to internal external stakeholders and clients. The BI Lead is responsible for mentoring and managing staff, maintaining departmental budgets and working with other departments to successfully market and grow the BI department’s client base and revenue streams.

BI Leads work with clients and colleagues to find document clear business outcomes and user stories. Writing scope to define the requirements of each engagement is a central part of the BI lead’s job role. Interfacing with various members of a company at different levels of seniority is a core part of a BI Lead’s routine work, in which the findings of the data analysis must be presented in an accessible and unambiguous way. Taking part in meetings and presentations to convey the findings is also a regular feature of the job.

The ability to clearly provide time estimates on work for projects is critical. Working with the BI team on a daily basis to ensure proper throughput of client projects is a core responsibility of the position. Being able to discuss, review and set expectation with clients regarding scope and change management of projects and deliverables is required. Clearly defining scope in written format will be required for all client projects and services.

Understanding the use of visualizations and storytelling with data is a core function of the position. Relying on the mentorship and input of senior analysts and business leads is critical to success.

Essential Functions

  • Interview clients and stakeholders to determine business outcome results- not taking face value answers
  • Define business outcomes for stakeholders and clients in a clear to understand way, in writing
  • Document forecasted time, actual time and work deliverables as a way to measure workload and billable time to clients
  • Manage multiple projects and tasks at the same time to ensure delivery of work based on deadlines is met utilizing project menegemtn software and best practices
  • Stay educated through CPE, certifications, and approved materials on process methodology, current data visualization and data analysis techniques
  • Ensure processes for backlog, requests and updates are documented and followed at all levels within the team
  • Work directly with executives and stakeholders internally and externally
  • Develop artifacts and deliverables to clients and stakeholders which may include presentation decks, reports, training materials, data visualizations, requirements, project scope and system documentation
  • Work directly with the BI team to deliver projects and services to clients as defined in sales and account management process
  • Must be able to professionally address change management with clients and team members to ensure scope and deliverables are kept within agreed project terms
  • Must work within team budget to execute projects and deliverables while minimizing down time with BI team
  • Provide mentorship and leadership for team members ensuring direct reports get documented reviews, training schedules and professional growth milestones presented multiple times per year
  • Work with management to ensure proper workflows are followed and team is prepared for technology changes in the market
  • Serves as an advanced problem solver with creative solutions and a focus on long-term stability
  • Offer a consultative approach and ability to understand the marriage of workflow and technology to increase client productivity
  • Build and adhere to budgets and planning frameworks for the department as part of an annual process
  • Strong understanding of technology and business productivity systems
  • Perform, when possible, quantitative analysis in order to measure outcomes
  • Understand core concepts around data storage and access specifically in structured data systems such as databases
  • Understanding of mathematical concepts regarding statistics and data fundamentals
  • Understanding of relational databases, statistical mathematics, and visualization tools
  • Build, present and maintain reports, dashboards and data driven models to internal and external teams and stakeholders

Technical Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or four plus years related experience
  • Weekend and evening work is possible due to projects and client issues
  • Mastery of Project Management
  • Strong understanding of Agile process methodology
  • Strong experience in Excel
  • Basic experience in writing SQL queries
  • Understanding of API and data extraction methodology
  • Understanding of database systems is essential
  • Ability to define time requirements based on complex tasks is essential
  • Microsoft data certifications is a plus

Salary

$95,000-$135,000
